Charlie Capalbo's time on earth may have been cut short, but in many ways he lives on.

The Capalbo Strong movement was founded by a group of hockey moms back in 2017 when Capalbo was first diagnosed with cancer.

"We were looking for a different outcome when we started this. We did three fundraisers, the first two were when Charlie was alive and we thought he was going to get better," said Dayna Cavanaugh, one of the founders of the group.

"That's the thing that really stays in my heart when things were going well for him, he felt so fortunate, the Capablos felt so fortunate and that made us feel so fortunate. That in good times and bad we gathered together to give back," said Lisa Kral, another member and hockey mom.

Charlie died in 2022, but the movement has continued. The group is reuniting to participate in this year's Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on Oct. 6 in honor of Charlie.

"Raising money for the Jimmy Fund is what he would have wanted," said Cavanaugh, "he always was looking for ways to help other people."

People can sign up in-person up until the morning of the walk, the deadline to walk remotely is Thursday, Oct. 3rd

Donations can be made throughout the month of October. More information here.
