A fugitive accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in New Jersey more than a decade ago was extradited from Mexico to face charges, according to the FBI.
FBI Newark agents escorted Adrian Bautista from Mexico to New Jersey on Friday following his extradition to the United States.
The FBI said the Morris County Prosecutor's Office charged Bautista in 2013 with aggravated sexual assault of a 5-year-old girl. He later fled New Jersey for New York and then Mexico, according to the agency.
Mexican authorities arrested Bautista in Mexico City on Oct. 31, 2025, pursuant to a U.S. extradition request. The FBI said local Mexican authorities and INTERPOL took him into custody without incident.
FBI Newark said Bautista's return to the United States was funded through the federal government's Project Welcome Home, which assists in returning state and local fugitives to the U.S. to face charges.
