Garnet Health under fire for vaccinating board members

A hospital in Orange County is facing continued scrutiny amid a state investigation after board members were vaccinated ahead of medical staff and eligible members of the community.
Garnet Health is now under state investigation for allegedly improperly distributing the vaccine.
A charge – under executive orders – could cost the Wallkill facility its license and a $1 million fine.
"We want to send a clear message to providers that if you violate the law on these vaccinations, we will find out and you will be prosecuted," said Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
A representative for Garnet Health says members of its 16-member board were vaccinated with an approved group of volunteers adding, "We were authorized to vaccinate high, medium and low risk groups in our health system and to get vaccines in arms and that's exactly what we did."
The state Health Department says that guidance only applies to volunteers directly involved in patient care or those who support staff involved in patient care, which the majority of the Garnet Health board members do not appear to be.
