Two good Samaritans helped a police officer in need after a routine arrest went awry over the weekend.The incident occurred Sunday night at the Buck Stop Sunoco on Madison Avenue in Bridgeport. Witnesses say they flagged down officer Richard Cretella after seeing 28-year-old Douglas Lima of Stamford and his girlfriend involved a physical altercation in the parking lot. As the officer was arresting the woman, 37-year-old Regina Sherwood, Lima jumped in and the two began punching and attacking the officer.An off-duty officer from Virginia, who happened to be at the gas station, came to Cretella?s aid and apprehended the suspects. Witness Tammy Williams also helped by using the cruiser?s CB radio to call for back-up. Both officers sustained minor injuries. The suspects have been arrested and face several charges.Williams says she received several calls and e-mails from Cretella?s fellow officers Monday thanking her. Both Williams and the off-duty officer are regarded as good Samaritans for their help.
