Gov. Hochul unveils plans to transform Penn Station into world class hub

Gov. Kathy Hochul unveiled plans this morning to transform Penn Station into a world-class hub that she says will put commuters and communities first.
The Long Island Rail Road terminal at Penn Station is slated to be completed in the next few months and is part of phase one of a big expansion and makeover project.
When the announcement was made, renderings of what is to come were shown.
The biggest difference commuters will see is that it will be one, single-level concourse and a large atrium with new entrances.
Leadership explained that the goal is that it won't just be the physical appearance that will change, but the entire experience.
Some commuters tell News 12 it is much-needed.
"I think it's a good update," says Mike Echevarria, of Massapequa. "We definitely need it."
Officials say the project will create tens of thousands of jobs and the next phase is for firms to submit plans for the work with a deadline in the next few months.
