Governor Jodi Rell traveled to firehouses across Connecticut Thursday to pay homage to first responders as she declared the day ?First Responders Day.?Rell sent out thanks to EMTs, police officers and firefighters. On her stop at the Westport Fire Department on Post Road she tried to convey to firefighters that their daily sacrifices do not go unnoticed. Assistant Chief Jonathan Gottfried says one of the best ways to thank first responders is to give them the personnel, equipment and other resources they need to get the job done. The Westport firefighters spent their hard-earned day of thanks working even harder. The firefighters went through training exercises that included rescuing a dummy and testing communications systems.
