Greenwich recognizes Red Cross Month with flag raising and proclamation

March marks Red Cross Month nationwide and the town of Greenwich is taking the time to celebrate the organization that delivers vital services for those in need.
Officials held a flag raising and proclamation ceremony Monday morning at Greenwich Town Hall for the Metro New York North Chapter.
"It just shows how much the town appreciates all that they do and really enjoys having the headquarters here in Greenwich,” said First Selectman Fred Camillo (R-Greenwich). “And it's just a reminder when people pass by Town Hall that it's Red Cross Month."
There are currently more than 300,000 "Red Crossers" in the volunteer workforce across the U.S. They provide disaster relief, support blood drives and military families, as well as teach first aid and CPR classes.
"In two months, they're going to be celebrating their 145th anniversary, so you'll be seeing a lot more of the Red Cross in May too," said Camillo.
The American Red Cross says the month-long recognition began as a national call to action during World War II to address growing humanitarian needs.
