A 13-year-old Greenwich girl is recovering Thursday after almost drowning in the icy Horseneck Pond.
Rescuers Thomas Barr and Victor Eimicke of the Greenwich Fire Department rushed to the scene Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. When they arrived the girl was about 25 yards offshore and up to her neck in water, clinging to the ice. The firefighters were able to get to the girl in time, saying her legs were numb.
The firefighters are being called heroes, but they say they were just doing their job.
