New York gubernatorial candidate Eliot Spitzer visited a Bronx apartment building Wednesday to drum up support and assure tenants he would work to fix the problems.
The building, located at 2081 Morris Ave., has more than 600 violations. About 150 of them are immediate hazards. The Democrat met with tenants, who say there are rats in their ovens and roaches in their fridges. They also complain about unfinished paint jobs.
Spitzer says the laws are on the books to prevent such violations, but he adds they are not being enforced. He promises to make the building, and others like it, more livable if he is elected governor.
