Gov. Ned Lamont says things could change, but as of now is leaning toward letting school districts decide whether students and staff should have to wear masks in the classroom when returning to school this fall.
However, with the state's infection rate creeping up to almost 3%, the president of the Connecticut Education Association, the state's largest teachers' union, says there should be a statewide mask mandate for schools now.
The state's other teachers' union, AFT Connecticut's Pre-K through 12 vice president released a statement saying, "We are eager to return to in-person instruction without risking our health. We will wear masks if that is required for the safety of our members and the school community."
Some students News 12 spoke with say they shouldn't have to wear a mask if they are already vaccinated.
Others say they're OK wearing masks inside the classroom even if they have already been vaccinated.
