A hiker had to be rescued by state park police after falling 250 feet into a gorge at an upstate state park.
State park police say a 20-year-old man climbed over the fence to take a picture of the gorge in Letchworth State Park, about 45 minutes from Rochester, but he ended up losing his footing and falling down various slopes.
Amazingly, he wasn't hurt. However, the NYS Park Police Genesee Zone High Angle Rescue Team had to go in to safely get him out and ended up citing him.
State park police say the rescue is a reminder of both the danger present when regulations are disregarded and the importance of having these essential park police members available.
