A Fairfield woman claims a town construction project is polluting her backyard pond and threatening local wildlife in the process.
Madelyn Cognetta says storm runoff from work on Redding Road has caused oil and rocks to gather in her pond. Cognetta says the fence that workers put up is inadequate, so she contacted town conservation officials because her property is zoned as a wetlands area. Officials told her to contact the Public Works Department.
A Public Works investigator looked at the site Thursday and found that although gravel is present in the pond, there is no sign of oil or contamination. Officials maintain the disruption to fish and other wildlife is temporary and not fatal.
