House Democrats rallied Wednesday in support of a 10-year, $5 billion plan to improve transportation across the state. About 300 union contractors gathered in Hartford to support House Speaker Jim Amann's proposal to fully fund the transportation plan. The Transportation Committee then held a public hearing on the bill, which includes more cars on Metro-North, more rail trips to New York City and opening up I-95 and the Merritt Parkway. Many business groups support all the improvements in the plan but have concerns about the financing. Governor Rell (R-CT) said she welcomes all fiscally responsible proposals and will work with Democrats and Republicans to come up with the best package.
