The Silver Shield Foundation held its seventh annual Greenwich Walk on Saturday at Tod's Point Beach, bringing together hundreds of participants to honor the families of fallen first responders.
The 3K walk serves as both a remembrance event and a fundraiser supporting scholarships and other services for children and families of police officers, firefighters and EMS members killed in the line of duty.
"It's wonderful for all the families to get together and see all the guests that we have that are supporters and we get the first responders to join us as well and it's very heartwarming," said K.C. Fuchs, the foundation's chief operating officer.
Among those participating for the first time were 12-year-old Remmy Swiantek and her mother Michelle Swiantek.
"Her father died about a year and a half ago. He was a Yale University police officer, an amazing person, amazing human, amazing father, amazing everything," shared Swiantek.
Fuchs said that each year the walk helps fund scholarships for children of fallen first responders.
Organizers said the goal for this year's walk is to raise $200,000 through this year's walk.
