‘I feel horrible about that situation’: Jersey City councilwoman accused in hit-and-run accident speaks publicly

Amy Degise, the Jersey City councilwoman accused in a hit-and-run accident with a bicyclist last month, is now speaking publicly.
At Wednesday night’s council meeting, a standing room only crowd turned out to call on Degise to resign over the incident.
After many spoke against her, she finally addressed them more than four and half hours into the meeting.
"July 19 and the weeks that have followed have been some of the most difficult and traumatic times of my entire life, and I am grateful that no one was seriously injured, and I feel horrible about that situation,” says Degise.
Council Member James Solomon released a statement Thursday that said in part, "I am disappointed that once again, my colleague has chosen herself over her constituents by failing to acknowledge her role in a crime we all witnessed and refusing to resign. Amy Degise represents the entire city as councilmember-at-large, and we as her constituents deserve better."
Solomon says elected officials are held to a higher standard and reiterated that Degise should resign.
Degise said she was not going to resign and would answer more questions after the court process is over.
