Bridgeport police on Wednesday released surveillance images of a man accused of shooting two children and a grandmother.
The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the PT Barnum housing complex and left a grandmother, her 2-year-old granddaughter and a 7-year-old girl who lives next door with injuries.
"They're very upset, they're very nervous, they're shaking - they can't get over what happened to them," says city official and former Councilmember Lydia Martinez, who spoke on behalf of the victims.
Police say the suspect fired from outside building No. 5, aiming at the victims' building. Investigators haven't disclosed who the intended target was.
Community members tell News 12 that gun violence has become routine at PT Barnum.
"There's a lot of fear," says Martinez.
The grandmother tells News 12 that all three have been released from the hospital but are traumatized and terrified.
"They showed me some of their scars outside, but the scars that they have in them - nobody can change that unless they change completely out of this atmosphere," Martinez says.
Martinez says the 7-year-old is too scared to even go to school.
"It must be awful to live like that," says Martinez.
Police say anyone with information is asked to contact Detective M. Ayala at 203-581-5259 or the Bridgeport Police Department anonymous tip line at 203-576-TIPS (8477).
