Police says the major ground search for Brian Laundrie at Florida reserve has mostly wrapped for the day with crews back heading back out throughout the weekend.
Laundrie’s parents reported him missing exactly one week ago today and just about every day since then police have been searching for him at the Carlton Reserve.
Today, police went into the wilderness armed with a warrant for his arrest.
The warrant was signed by a judge in Wyoming, where his girlfriend Gabby Petito’s remains were found.
According to the indictment, Laundrie fraudulently used a Capital One debit card, likely Petito’s, to withdraw at least $1,000.
Authorities say Laundrie disappeared without taking his cellphone or wallet.
North Port Police say the manhunt is taking on multiple forms.
"Agencies are issuing search warrants for data, social media or some other investigative means, and then we do the search," says North Port police Commander Joe Fussell. "We're not wasting our time out here. We are doing our due diligence to find Brian in an area that intelligence had led us he could possibly be in."
Ralph Cilento, a retired lieutenant commander in the NYPD who now teaches at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, says he believes the police keep coming back to the reserve because it's the best lead they had.
"There is no doubt in my mind that the search in the Florida swamp was real," says Cilento. "They were really following up on leads that they thought he was there. But at the same time, this other electronic investigation is going on."
If you know anything about Laundrie's whereabouts you're asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
