Girls in Stamford raised their voices Saturday to empower each other as they celebrated the International Day of the Girl.
The event took place in Mill River Park.
"Today's event was just a call to action for everyone to support girls and get us access to all the things we need," said Breana Cheryl, of the nonprofit LiveGirl.
In partnership with United State of Women, the nonprofit set the stage to inspire younger generations of females to make a difference in their communities.
LiveGirl is working to shift the societal narrative about females. The nonprofit works to build inclusive and confident leaders, and on Saturday they offered the young girls the resources to get involved and make a difference.
"We need to provide them with the mentors the skills and the equal access to do so," said LiveGirl founder and chief Sheri West.
LiveGirl provides free-of-charge leadership development and mentoring programs for girls in grades 5 through college.
