Bridgeport has secured initial funding to replace its outdated 1966 police headquarters with a new $50 million, state-of-the-art facility, aiming to modernize public safety infrastructure and improve officer morale, Mayor Joe Ganim announced Monday.

Ganim says a $5 million city investment and an $850,000 federal grant will launch the planning phase for the new station, which is expected to break ground within two years.

It's not clear yet where the new police department will be built.
