Students at Jefferson Elementary School in Norwalk can look forward to brand-new bigger classrooms, with renovations starting this week.
Board of Education Chairman Colin Hosten says he's excited to get the long-awaited project started. The temporary classrooms at Jefferson Elementary School have been around since 2007.
Hosten says he wants to make sure all students have the space to learn. The demolition is beginning on the portable classrooms to make way for a new gym.
Michael D'angelo, the project manager for Newfield Construction, says once they finish the new gym, they can start renovations on the interior classrooms this summer. The whole project should take about a year and a half.
Jefferson students are currently learning over at Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy's campus.
The renovations will cost about $33 million.
The entire project is expected to be finished by June of 2022.
