A jury has found Nahjim Luke guilty of manslaughter but not guilty of murder in the shooting death of Brandon Hendricks.
Brandon Hendricks was struck and killed by a stray bullet on June 28, 2020. He was 17 years old.
Luke had been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was also found guilty on the latter charge.
The family of Brandon Hendricks breathed a collective sigh of relief after having to face the man who took their son's life in court for nearly three years.
"He went down you know, you did the crime, you pay the time. Be honorable about it. You took my son's life," said Eve Hendricks, Brandon's mother. "Brandon made sure he got justice because he was that person, a righteous person, a decent person."
Eve Hendricks says that this verdict is only the beginning of acceptance for her family's loss, and that she is going to continue to advocate for an end to gun violence in her community and beyond.
