Lawmakers are asking for a federal probe into the Jeep Grand Cherokee claiming a defect in the vehicle is to blame for the death of a man at a car wash in Hamden.
Milford car wash owner Doug Newman calls the malfunction sudden acceleration. He says he's seen several Jeep Grand Cherokee lurch forward and cause accidents after the car is shifted from neutral to drive when coming out of the car wash.
Attorney Genereal Richard Blumenthal says he wants the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate. Meantime, Jeep claims the problem is due to driver error.
