A weeklong annual fundraiser that raises funds and awareness for breast cancer has made its way back to Connecticut and runs from May 1 to May 7.

It's called Bakes for Breast Cancer Connecticut. It comes from the nonprofit organization Bakes for Breast Cancer, which is dedicated to funding breast cancer researchers and clinicians.

"I lost my mother to breast cancer when I was 16 years old, when the odds of getting breast cancer were one in 20, and I always loved baking with her," said Carol Sneider, founder of Bakes for Breast Cancer.

Restaurants, bakeries, pastry shops, and other businesses that participate usually offer one of their sweet treats during the weeklong event, where 100% of the proceeds go to Bakes for Breast Cancer to fund breast cancer research.

Some of the businesses participating include Flinders Lane Kitchen and Bar in Stamford, Bin 100 Restaurant in Milford, and Caffe Bravo in New Haven.

"If I could make something sound delicious and already appealing to somebody, it adds another layer to their experience to feel like they're providing back to their community and such a good cause," said Brendan Hovan, executive chef at Flinders Lane.

Following its run in Connecticut, Bakes for Breast Cancer will move on to several other states, including Vermont, Maine, Maryland and Virginia. This year's campaign will conclude in late October.
