When snow is in the forecast, that could mean a trip to the hardware store.

"I am getting some salt. I got some shovels, and ice pick, and I'm ready to go," said Arun Datta, of Great Neck.

Ice melt is the number one snow-related item being bought at Trio Hardware in Plainview, according to co-owner Todd Kirschner.

He has some tips when applying the ice melt.

"If you don't have an actual spreader, you can actually take a solo cup and shake it out. You don't want to put globs of it all over the place - use it sparingly," he said.

Donna Malter, of Plainview, says she has been ready for the snow since the last storm.

"We've prepared for any ice slipping and we certainty have enough in the house that we can survive," she said.

Some are filling their shopping carts with ice melt and groceries for the big snow storm, and others are placing catering orders for the big game on Sunday.

"No. 1 item, of course, is going to be wings," said John Murray, owner of Coliseum Kitchen and Caterers in Plainview.

Murray says they have nearly 100 orders to fill for Super Bowl Sunday, and they might get more because of the snow.

"If it's snowing people like pizza. How do you not like pizza," said Murray.

Whatever your plans are on Sunday, Datta says safety first.

"I have two young kids at home, so I got to make sure everything's safe for them if they go out. I'm sure they're going to want to go sledding so looking forward to that," he said.
