A longtime New Canaan restaurant has closed its doors for good.
The Gates Restaurant & Bar first opened on Forest Street 36 years ago.
Tables were full for brunch Sunday as patrons got their last chance to eat at the popular restaurant. Regular customers called the day sentimental, as some had been eating at Gates for decades.
Manager Ceal Swift says the closure is bittersweet for her.
"It's been a long run and we've had a wonderful time," Swift said. "We love the town and all the people we've met over the years, but it's time."
According to Swift, the owners are retiring and sold the restaurant. They will now be spending time traveling and playing golf.
Swift says that a new restaurant bearing the same name will open in the space, but it will feature a new menu and interior.
