Well, it's that time of week when we check out the fun things to do around our area. And today main Street, Connecticut heads to Bridgeport. Our Mark Zal is at Lisa's bake with more. Sounds delicious. Mark. Oh, Becky. And it also smells delicious. I wish I could share that with you here this morning. I want to introduce you to the lady behind it all. Lisa Young. Thank you so much for being with us this morning. Thank you. Good morning. You have been in business for a decade and how are things going here? Oh, it's so awesome here. I love it. I have the best customers, new customers. Um No, no, I'm just enjoying myself. Tell us about some of the goodies you got here. We start our day off with, oh gosh, a little bit of everything. Some sinful butter, Michael biscuits for the fall. I do apple cider doughnuts over here. The best chocolate chip cookies, apple turnovers. I do oatmeal red velvet doughnut shops, coffee quiche. Exactly. And I think this is interesting too. You have a nice sign here right on the case where you get uh voted the best chocolate chip cookie and can I get by? I know that was such an awesome accomplishment. Um, and that's actually one of the things I sell the most of every day. So, and when I go around town, you're the cookie lady. You're the cookie lady. I don't even have a name so that we get some more on the cookies in the moment. What I find also interesting though is that you have a nice little place to sit here where you can, I mean, you know, grab a book, like have your coffee, your cookie, your dough, whatever. Right. Definitely. I wanted people to come in and be comfortable, you know, whether you're starting your day in the middle of the day. It's homey. It is, it is very homey. And, uh, I mean, obviously you do breakfast but you said you actually have a big lunch crowd too. Definitely. Definitely. Lots of great sandwiches. I make homemade soups every day. Uh, today's cheeseburger and pastina. Um, yeah, so we do, I, I do a little bit of everything catering. I'll do, you know, salmon and chicken pasta. Um, so I'm, I'm your little local, you know, fun stuff for whatever you need. What does it mean to you, to, to, to make people happy, people love to eat. Oh, absolutely. Me included chocolate chip cookie for breakfast every morning for breakfast. Oh, here's one here that it's hot and you just, it, it's so hot. See, I, I bake belly's happy. No, Becky. I'm about to bring some of these back for you. You're gonna really want to try these. We won't let you back in the building unless you do. Just make sure there's some, make sure there's some milk back there too. All right, we'll get some for you. Thanks to you and Lisa. All right. Well, an update.

It's that time of week when we check out the fun things to do around our area. Today Main Street, Connecticut heads to Bridgeport and our Mark Sudall is at one of the many murals in the city, this one at Rail Road Avenue, Mark. Good morning, Becky. Yeah, the spectacular mural behind me is called the Tailor, and it's won national awards. It's put together by the artist Key Detail and just one of the many fantastic murals you'll see around the city of Bridgeport. Joining me this morning is the mayor of Bridgeport, Joe Ganim, to talk more about this. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. detail, one of the, I guess it's some 30 artists, but really an award winning artist, has helped us bring out beautiful art murals throughout the city. I think there's around 30 now. We've got a new program now to support artists to continue to beautify the city with art. We like to call ourselves now with the amphitheater and other music venues the arts and entertainment capital of Connecticut. This demonstrates just what you can do if you let the artists come in. And show what they can do in an urban city. So tell me how you think murals like this around the city are bringing people together. Oh, they're bringing people together. People ooing over them. But in addition to that, some of them have captured, as key detail has either history of Bridgeport or Bridgeport's culture. You'll see themes that go out, all different colors and ideas that come out that really accentuate not just art in general and the beauty of the artists and their ability, but Bridgeport either now or Bridgeport's past and obviously like to think of as Bridgeport's future. Well, and I think the cool thing about this one is it Some of Bridgeport's history with the sewing industry and of course like you said Singer was right over here with the amphitheater, right? And if you look closely and it's so well done, you see a sewing machine in the middle there and that is a Singer sewing machine. This is the south end of Bridgeport where Singer. One of the founder of was established and this was a big presence in Bridgeport's past. It's now captured in beautiful art and will remain not just beautiful art, but something that says wow, Bridgeport's got a long history and obviously a great future. And are you seeing that with some of the other murals too capturing a little bit of the history here. Oh yeah, it's really interesting if you get a chance to show the viewers or drive through the city, you're Going to see almost in every 2345 blocks something like this, different colors, a different beauty, different themes, but it's become something that we've embraced as much as any city in the country and have been identified with it as wow, not only do they talk about arts in the music venue with the amphitheater, sound side and all the other things, but with beautiful art from artists from around the country. These are artists that have come in here to make this something they want to put up as a portrait, if you will, for their. but also to kind of say thank you to Bridgeport before we let you go, anything else coming to Bridgeport with a little arts feel to it? Well, Southside will be next weekend. Yes, you get a chance. Noakhan, I mean you can go right down the list of great music venues that are going to be this venue. I look forward to it. You see the amphitheater we're talking about a new Fillmore in the city of Bridgeport. Fillmore has been a music venue identified with cities across the country. They want to bring one to Bridgeport. We're saying come in, come in. We've got other stuff that's going on in the city, so stay tuned. Feel free to come down, enjoy, see the art, and be a part of Bridgeport. Mayor, thank you so much.
