We made it to Friday. It's time now for Main Street, Connecticut when we take you to our local towns and cities to showcase all they have to offer today. We're in Milford news. 12 Connecticut Mark. It all begins at the corner restaurant for us. Morning Mark. Good morning, Beckett. Yeah, we are at 105 River Street here in downtown Milford. We're right across from City Hall and you know, a lot of restaurants can do lunch and dinner, but, you know, doing breakfast and brunch, not always easy and it's not easy to do it well, but the corner restaurant has really cornered the market if you will on doing the old brunch and breakfast name, Best Breakfast and brunch in Connecticut. And that was uh actually named Best Breakfast and People Magazine in Connecticut magazine, the top 20 brunch restaurant in America. According to Travel and Leisure magazine featured on the cooking channel and number one in Connecticut for brunch. According to MS n.com, I tell you, they got a lot of accolades and, and just to, to kind of take a peek inside here, it's a great little kind of breakfast nook, you know, it's kind of a homey feel. You got a little bookshelf going there. Nice, uh, nice place to have a little bite to eat. So, uh, we are gonna have, uh, a couple more things coming up for you this morning. We're gonna have, we take you to Carve here in Milford. I'm gonna get a little ice cream, one of my favorite places, by the way. And then we're gonna get a little look at the birds along the shore as well. Hopefully the weather will hold out, looks like, uh, the clouds breaking up here a little bit. All right, we made it to Friday. So it's time for main Street, Connecticut when we take you to our local towns and cities to showcase all they have to offer. And today we are in Milford News. 12 Connecticut's Mark. Sudal is at Carve for a treat this morning. Mark. Good morning, Becca. Yeah, anytime my wife and I are in Milford, we love to stop at this car bell. The ice cream is phenomenal joining us this morning. So nice to get up this early is Kevin Arnone. So nice to have you here this morning. Now, tell me this is a great history of this place. Tell me about it. 1953. This car open. It's the oldest car in Connecticut. Not the 1st, 1st was Boston, but that has since closed. But this is now the oldest carve in Connecticut. My dad took it over 40 years ago, 1984. So it's been part of my family for the last 40 years. He since retired, I took it from him and uh gonna continue his legacy. But this is the original building. So, you know, a lot of carves, you see now, uh you know, maybe have some remodel done. This is OG building. We like to call it with the slanted glass in the front and we got the take out windows as well. But again, it's been here for 70 years and I mean, your products are great. People remember you, of course, for the original ice cream cake and with that crunch in the side, people love their crunchies. But Carl is known obviously for their soft serve ice cream and their original ice cream cake. The first to do the ice cream cake and the layer of vanilla ice cream layer of chocolate ice cream with the delicious crunch in the middle and you make it all here. Everything in the store here is made. The only thing we don't make are the cookies, the flying sauces those get sent to us. But everything else we make here fresh on site. And you know, we carry about 20 different scooped flavors, about six or seven different kinds of flying saucers. And we have cakes that go from five people all the way up to 55 people. In fact, we're actually doing a wedding cake this weekend. You know what's cool about Kevin? Is he appreciates what we do. He's a, he's a weather man at heart himself was on the air here in Connecticut also down in South Carolina. He even made some weather related ice cream. So I had to incorporate weather somehow been a meteorologist for the last 15 years. Uh This is uh the blue ice cream here. It is called Tornado Cookie. It's basically vanilla ice cream and we kind of just took all the cookies that we sell here at the Milford carve from our chips, our Oreos and we throw them in there and just kind of blend it all together like a tornado. You get a quick forecast for today while I'm eating your delicious ice cream. A little bit of humidity today. Sunshine and clouds. But let me tell you that humidity kicks real big up as we go into the weekend. With temperatures in the eighties heat index near 90. Love what you're doing. Both me wrong with the weather and with the ice good. Right. I can't even talk. It shows up backing back to you. We'll see you in an hour. All right. We are in Milford news 12, Connecticut's Mark. Sudal takes us to the Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center and Mark, uh, seeing any rare sightings out there so far this morning, Becky. I can tell you that I'm hearing that's the endangered piping plover. Actually, they're probably better seen on the other side. I'm actually looking at an osprey here uh, out at one of the nests here along the Housatonic River and joining us this morning here to talk more about the uh Connecticut Autobahn Center here is Kenny Elkins. Thank you so much for being with us. Good morning. Thank you. Interesting note that you mentioned here about the river and how with all the flooding we've had up north, how that's filtering all that now. Yes. Getting to visit the coastal center. We have 800 acres of salt marsh and most people think of it just being a spot for mosquitoes and bugs. But there's so much value in this wetland that I live upstream of the Hs Atan River. I've seen all that flooding that happened upstream and this magic marsh has been filtering all that out. So that Long Island Sound is a little bit cleaner. Uh, so there's a lot of value in having these wetlands and not just piping plovers, but we have an endangered turtle. The Diamond Back Terrapin here too. Oh, wow. So you have some, uh, a little taste of what we might see here. If folks are looking for birds here, what might they see? Well, being a marsh, there's a lot of different ducks in November through March, we can see over a dozen different species. Some days here. Things like the red breasted Morganza. Is that one with the orangey head and a long bill there? And then there's sandpipers of different types, the shore birds. So there's the semi palmated plover is the cousin of the plover. There's probably about 1500 to 2000 of them on our sand bars today that they're on migration, that we're a stopover spot for these birds. And every few years when there happens to be snowy owls moving south towards Connecticut, our sand bars happen to be the large wide open habitat is one of the spots people might be able to find a snowy owl in Connecticut. Better chance here than just about any other spot. Wow, great stuff. Of course, you're gonna have a lot of events, uh, coming up here. It's always a great place uh for school kids to come and visit. Uh, Becky. Just a fascinating spot here. Beautiful views and, uh, we hear the sunsets are pretty nice here too. Beth. Oh, I bet they are. Mark. Ok. We'll let you guys continue to chat.
