It's Thursday. That means it's main street, Connecticut every Thursday, we take you to different towns and cities in our area to showcase all they have to offer. News. 12, Connecticut's Mark. Sudal is in Stamford today. He's starting things off at chess. Chelsea Piers, getting yourself in shape to start off the go. Yeah, we got a lot to offer here. Chelsea Piers does. Anyway, if you can think of the sport they have here from hockey to tennis, to basketball, soccer. Obviously joining me now is Kevin Burton. He's the athletic director here does a fantastic job and, uh, tell us about the Chelsea Pierce Foundation. Yeah, Mar Well, thank you all for coming. Um Chelsea Pierce Foundation is a 501 C three independent not for profit. The mission is simple. We, we're trying to empower young people to develop critical life skills through participation in organized sports, which is important to that. Yes, it's incredibly important and the barrier, the financial barrier is what we're trying to overcome here. So regardless of financial circumstance, we're going to offer scholarships or we have partnerships with other mission aligned organizations to offer these young Fairfield County athletes access to sports and you have a pretty big event coming up next weekend. You wanna promote 22nd and 23rd. This is not my sport, but we all play basketball. Can you tell we have the play for a purpose event? It's gonna be an amazing afternoon, an amazing day. We have everything from adult hockey tournament, youth soccer tournament. We even have a five K run. Uh, we're gonna see, hey, if you wanna come and even walk it or if you wanna be an ultra marathon or how many can you do in four hours? Um, we have drop in classes anywhere from a toddlers all the way up to adults. So we started a swim aon at the beginning of the month. Come in, donate per lap, donate for your total workout, whatever any donation is going to be beneficial to the foundation. That's awesome website. Yes, Chelsea Piers foundation.org. Ok. I understand. News. 12 Connecticut Marks all is in Stanford today and he's got another surprise for us. Mark. Where are you, Becky? All the world's a stage. The men and women are merely players. We're here at curtain call in Stanford. It's right on the, uh, Sterling Farms campus. If you will, you play a little golf here, maybe, you know, I'm looking for Lou Urson. He's supposed to be meeting us here, Lou, ah, there he is. Good morning. Thank you for being with us. Thanks for having me. So, uh, 52 years this place has been here, had a few stalls in here, I guess, a couple of cows, a couple of cows. Uh, so you've got auditions that you're doing right now? Is that right? Brian, we're having callbacks and new, uh, new auditions tonight for the musical, Tootsie. It's the first time done in Fairfield County. Uh, our production of Fiddler on the roof. You can see the set here. Uh, little bearded wonder here for the, for the show. Runs through June 29 and, uh coming up in next month, July 11, we open our 21st season of outdoor Shakespeare. Wow. We, uh, we have our own version of Shakespeare's Globe that was designed by our resident uh designer. Uh We're doing the Tam of the Shrew, July 11 through 21. And in August we have our 34th annual summer youth theater production. So it's a young talent from all over Fairfield County. Uh, the kids aged 10 through 21 and they're doing Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Wow. So we've got a lot going on in daytime. Uh, we have 42 week sessions of daytime programming that are a full day programs in the arts for kids. Um, 10 through 16. And I mean, obviously the kids are, but I mean, e even the adults are volunteers. All volunteers are, our performers are volunteers. Our crew members that the cast, uh, built, the cast and crew helped build the scenery. Uh, they work, follow spots, they run sound, uh, because everybody's body mic like we are now. Um, but all, all volunteers. All right. So we got just a little bit of time left here. Give me a little bit of a fiddler on the roof. We rich man. Yeah, I I de ID. Excellent. News. 12, Connecticut's Marko has been on the road in Stamford today. He started off at Chelsea Piers, made his way to the curtain call players. And now where are you? Mark? Well, Becky, now we're on Lower Summer Street, which has been totally revamped. If you can check this out here, they widen the sidewalks here so they kind of made the road a little thinner here, but it's been great to do what they did here because just opening up this whole area to outdoor seating and just a great dining atmosphere. In fact, they're talking about doing on Thursday night, some block parties here. I mean, we're just down the road from where they're gonna be doing live at five. pretty soon as well. I'd like to introduce you to some of the, the folks from the local restaurants here. I'm gonna go right down the line here. Give me your name and what restaurant you're with? My name is S I'm with Ninja bubble tea. Uh, I'm Dan, I'm from uh Kashi sushi and steakhouse. Ok. Bruno Divina, Modern Italia. It sounds good. Harold Garcia Barcelona Wine Bar. All right. Let me skip over here and let me, let me ask you now. I mean, I know this road was closed for a while. Certainly affected your business. How does it feel now? It's great and it's beautiful. Um, as the time passed expectations grew and it exceeds expectations, it looks awesome and we're excited to have guests coming back down and, and the streets reopen. How about for you? What's it been like? Well, after all the challenges now, it's great. We want a lower summer street to become a Mecca for dining, retail, retailers, shopping, you know, and there is a variety of restaurants. It's very unique. You don't get this anywhere else in the city. So come down here, you're at Kashi right across the street here. You had a great outdoor set up here. Tell me about that. Uh We've been waiting with Beta Breath for this. This has been a long time coming and we're just super excited that all the restaurants here downtown are gonna have the opportunity uh to be able to, to shine, especially here in the, the summer months. Uh This kind of worked out great for us because it happened at the, the same time as our menu relaunched. So we put some fantastic new sushi rolls and some great new items on the menu. And I'm sure some of the other restaurants too are kind of doing the same thing. And we're just really thrilled that uh downtown Stanford and, and, you know, down Summer Street is everything that we wanted it to be for all of the wonderful people that make up this community. It's finally come back. What's it been like for you? It's been a wonderful journey. We came here 3.5 years ago. Um Ninja bubble tea has really expanded from New York to Connecticut and to see the transformation here in downtown Stanford and watching it beautify itself as um we coming past COVID has been a wonderful experience just growing with it and, and seeing our products grow and, and seeing us here grow, being part of the community with all the other restaurants here. It's, it's been a very wonderful, diverse community and we're happy to be here. Thank you all so much for being here so early this morning. Uh Becky, I, I haven't seen any food out here yet. You know, me, I like to eat, see if I can work on these guys a little bit and I'll see you in a little while. I think that I cook you whatever you want. You just said you just asked Mark. Yeah.
