Man accused of threatening business owner arrested after two-month investigation

Westport police say a man accused of making violent threats against a local business owner is now facing harassment and threatening charges.
The case began in April, when a woman went to police headquarters to report that she had been harassed and threatened through phone calls and text messages. The victim, who owns a cleaning service, told officers she had recently fired an employee who had been arrested out of state for stealing from a client. Soon after the firing, she began receiving threatening messages from someone she believed to be the former employee’s husband.
According to police, the caller made several alarming statements, including a threat to kill the victim’s daughter if his demands were not met. Detectives investigated and identified the alleged caller as 37-year-old Waleston DaSilva-Sousa of Danbury, and an arrest warrant was issued.
Last week, the Danbury Police Department notified Westport authorities that DaSilva-Sousa was in their custody on the active warrant. He was transported to Westport, where he was formally charged with harassment in the second degree and threatening in the second degree.
