Scholarship money created for and available to Stamford residents remains open and unapplied for. The scholarship, known as the Joseph W. Nunn Scholarship, is named after Joseph Nunn, who was killed in a car accident in Stamford in December of 2005. Nunn's mother, Myrtle, a nurse at the Toquam Magnet School, says she created the scholarship to keep the memory of her son alive. The original deadline for applicants was Friday, April 27, but since the fund hasn't received a single application, the deadline has been extended until May 7. Five Joseph Nunn scholarships are available this year, ranging from $500 to $2,000. Two are available to high school seniors who live and attend school in Stamford. The other three are available to Stamford adults who are looking to continue their educations.
