Debi Barton, of Milford, is looking back on the life of her 33-year-old son who died last year while on his scooter.

Barton says Kyle Wiltshire, who had special needs, was crossing Ferry Boulevard when a car struck him. She says she will never forget what doctors told her at the hospital.

"His artery up here was just obliterated and he's got a brain bleed, and I'm like, I felt like I was just getting hit and hit and hit and I felt like I was just getting numb," said Barton.

Wiltshire died a month later.

The 21-page Stratford police report obtained by News 12 Connecticut says the investigating officer found the driver of the car that struck Wiltshire was "not speeding" and "was not using a cellphone" at the time of the crash. The officer said "based on Kyle's lack of visibility, as well as his sudden and unexpected attempt to cross the driver's lane of traffic, I determined Kyle to be at fault for the charge of...improper use of the highway on motor driven cycles."

Barton says she feels the investigation was rushed and unfair.

"I just felt like something wasn't right," Barton said. "Things are not adding up, they're just not adding up. It's so one-sided. The red flags are very evident and I just feel that Kyle deserves a full truthful investigation."

As Barton gets ready to for a memorial at the accident scene this coming Friday, she says she's asking police respectfully to take another look at the accident that claimed her son's life. Stratford police responded Wednesday saying, "We stand behind the findings of our investigation."
