The Stamford community gathered Sunday to remember Chris Collins, a resident who died on American Airlines Flight 5342 when it collided with a military helicopter over the Potomac in January.

He was one of the 67 people who died in the crash.

Family, friends and his fellow volunteers from "Lucky Dog Refuge" held a memorial walk at Mill River Park.

Organizers said it was Chris' favorite area to walk the shelter dogs.

"Chris was one of the kindest, most giving, generous human beings. He gave so much of his heart to these dogs. He loved to take them to sit on the bench and watch the boats go by in the harbor...He was definitely both a staff and dog favorite," said Kirstin Mende, co-founder and CEO of Lucky Dog Refuge.

The rescue says it has raised about $100,000 for emergency veterinarian needs to help out pups in the community.
