The City of Milford commemorated Juneteenth in their third annual celebration on the Town Green this year.
Organizers say even before Juneteenth became a federal holiday last year, there has been a demand in Milford to celebrate the event.
Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, but organizers say it's a way to celebrate Black American's achievements throughout history.
"We have to always talk about the past because it influences the present," says Nija Phelps. "You have to celebrate the wins and Black excellence, and Black freedom, and Black joy is something we don't always get to celebrate easily."
Milford's Town Green was busy all day long and the celebration featured music, cultural activities, food and highlights Black-owned businesses.
