The local soccer community paid tribute to one of its own Wednesday.

People across the state placed cleats outside their homes in honor of Avery Lafferty, a 12-year-old soccer player from Milford.

"Avery's not forgotten and she will long be remembered," Ashley Tilki, of Avery's Little Army says. “It’s these little things for Lisa, Paul, and Avery’s sister Lexi to see showcasing the community’s outreach to them, being like we support, we honor, we remember her."

Lafferty passed away this month after a courageous battle with cancer.

Avery's Little Army was created in her memory, and the foundation seeks to find a cure for pediatric cancer.
