The mayor of Milford says there has been an uptick in targeted attacks on the city’s homeless population.

Mayor Richard Smith says that the homeless community has endured physical and verbal assaults, stone-throwing and even fireworks being shot off into encampments.

Hateful imagery, such as swastikas, has been drawn on the trees in the area as well.

“Targeting people because they are vulnerable is cowardly, and a betrayal of everything our community stands for. It has no place in Milford, and it will not be tolerated,” the mayor wrote in a statement.

Anyone who may have information about the incidents is urged to contact Milford police.
