Sydney Park, who was crowned Miss Five Boroughs, was crowned Miss New York 2021 at the Paramount Theater in Peekskill Sunday night.
Lauren Molella, of Millbrook in Duchess County, was the reigning Miss New York. She says, “It's been a dream, I've had the opportunity to travel all around New York State. I did upward of 300 appearances around the state.”
Molella represented the Empire State since 2019 and has won more than $90,000 in scholarship money from the Miss New York and Miss America Organizations.
Last year's pageant was canceled due to the pandemic.
Moella says after she crowns her successor, she has big plans.
"I'm heading back to Indiana, where I'm doing my doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I'm very excited about it,” she says.
Sydney Park will move on to compete for the Miss America title in December.
The first runner up in the competition was Taryn Smith (Miss City of New York), the second Marisa Gomez (Miss Greater New York), the third Natalie Ragazzo (Miss Liberty) and the fourth Serena Exantus (Miss Finger Lakes).
