(11/20/06) THE BRONX ? Extra points are usually considered automatic, but sometimes they come back to haunt a team in a big way.
Such was the case when St. Anthony?s defeated Mount St. Michael 21-20 in the CHSFL AAA final. Mount put up quite a fight, tying the game 7-7 in the first quarter on an 80-yard touchdown run by Michael Petrellesse. They would go up 14-7 in the second on a 16-yard quarterback keeper by Jayson Holt.
With the game tied 14 all in the fourth, St. Anthony?s scored on an option play to go up 21-14. Petrellesse then showed dangerous speed on the ensuing kickoff, sprinting 92 yards to the house to bring Mount within one point. However, the extra point try to tie the game was kicked into the line, sending Mount to a devastating defeat. Despite the tough loss, Mount players say they have a great team and had an excellent season.
