A Norwalk pizza shop is kicking off its annual fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Letizia’s pizza is selling Gertie’s Pie of Hope for $15 this October.
"We don't have to do it," co-owner Danny Segers says. "We enjoy doing it, and it's a special month for us."
All of the proceeds from the specialty pizzas go directly to the American Cancer Society.
“It’s near and dear to our heart," Segers says. "It’s something that pretty much affects everybody that you see. At some point in their life, they’ve been affected by it somehow. It’s something we feel strongly about."
The specialty pie is made with macaroni and cheese, breadcrumbs and bacon.
Segers says the pizza shop has donated more than $30,000 to the American Society since starting to sell the specialty pie seven years ago.
Segers says that raising $5,000 is always the goal.
“But whatever we raise we're happy with. We do our best and hope the people come out,” he says.
The pie is named after the grandmother of Letizia’s founder who passed away from breast cancer.
