Police in Stratford are warning residents about a new banking scam that has already cost victims thousands of dollars.
Police say the scam has cost residents nearly thousands of dollars in the last month alone.
Officials say the scammers pose as bank representatives and contact residents using numbers that appear to be legitimate bank numbers.
Police say the scammers create a sense of urgency by claiming the person's account has been compromised.
Victims of the scam say they are told to withdraw money from their accounts and send it over through gift cards or by using Cash App.
Police say if residents get a call along the lines of the scam, they suggest calling their respective bank or visiting their local branch.
