New rideshare app in Stamford offers free rides until Dec. 19
The city of Stamford rolled out the new pilot program last week.
StamFORWARD, a new rideshare service, is providing residents a new and cheaper way to get around Stamford.
The city of Stamford rolled out the new pilot program last week and is already receiving great response.
"Already we know that over 900 have used it and we want to continue more ridership and continue to pursue that funding so that we can keep this program going for our residents," said Mayor Caroline Simmons.
The city received $2.5 million from the Connecticut Department of Transportation for this two-year, micro-transit pilot project.
"It really connects the east and west side and Southend to Downtown and the Transportation Center. We wanted to offer another option to the last and first mile of the Transportiaont Center," explained Bureau Chief of Stamford Transportation, Traffic and Parking, Frank Petise.
The service is providing free rides until Dec. 19, afterward it will be $1.75 per ride and $85 per additional passenger. Seniors 62 and over, and ADA eligible customers can ride for $.85.
"We wanted to time it around the holidays and people shopping as well," said Petise.
