New US travel restrictions begin today due to omicron variant

New United States travel restrictions began today due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the omicron variant.
Travelers heading to the U.S. will be required to show evidence of a negative test within one day of boarding their flight. Any foreign national who travels to the U.S. must also be fully vaccinated.
The previous rules allowed travelers to enter the U.S. if they had a negative test three days prior.
There is no requirement for post-arrival testing or quarantine.
The U.S. is still restricting entry to travelers from South Africa and seven other African nations. The travel ban does not apply to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
President Joe Biden is also extending the federal rule requiring passengers on any mass transit wear masks through March.
