A local business is teaming up with The Cancer Couch for a fundraiser this weekend.
Nordic Fish will be offering lobster by the pound for $1 more than dock price with the money going to The Cancer Couch organization, which raises money and awareness about metastatic breast cancer.
Thomas Scalera says his wife, Rebecca, was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in August 2015 at just 43 years old. He says the mother of two learned the hard way what little funding goes into metastatic breast cancer research.
The grim prognosis of two to four years to live with no cure available sparked Rebecca Scalera's idea for The Cancer Couch Foundation.
An anonymous donor matches every single donation. Thomas Scalera says community-based fundraisers are important which is why the Nordic Claws for a Cause event will be meaningful.
The owners of Nordic Fish bought 1,500 pounds of lobster for the event. Rebecca Scalera passed away in 2019 but she continues to help families dealing with this diagnosis.
