A group of Norwalk cheerleaders packed their pompoms and luggage before heading off to a national championship in Florida Wednesday.
Two Norwalk Packers teams, under 10 and under 13, met in a parking lot to start their long 22-hour bus ride to Orlando, Florida, amid dreary weather.
Both squads won three prior competitions, including a performance at regionals to qualify for the American Youth Cheerleading Championship at Disney.
The girls said they're pretty psyched for the whole experience.
Mayor Harry Rilling helped send the girls on their way at the parking lot. He congratulated them and thanked them for representing Norwalk.
Since both squads made this journey last year and won the national title, they are hoping for a repeat this year.
The older girls compete Saturday; the younger girls on Sunday.
