The head of a Manchester nonprofit is urging the public to focus on vision health during National Wellness Month.
Michelle Puzzo, co-founder of UR ("your") Community Cares, is inviting residents to the Norwalk Eye Health Fair that will take place this Wednesday.
She says the event will connect the public with vital vision care resources.
"There's about 64% of Americans that have glasses, so that means there's a large population of people that may have macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and vision is a way to make sure that we are staying independent," Puzzo says. "If you can get some preventative care, that way you can start treating these earlier diagnoses and you can stay independent as you're aging."
The free event will be on the fifth floor of Norwalk Hospital from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Organizers say attendees will receive a free lunch if they register in advance by calling 860-430-4557.
