Norwalk school officials and students celebrated the opening of their new Cranbury Elementary School.
The old facility – described as antiquated – has been replaced by a $45 million building with a focus on sustainability.
Officials say the new school includes a rooftop solar system, pollinator pathway, air conditioning, separate cafeteria and gymnasium spaces, and sound systems in each classroom for instructional videos.
"We invest in the future because these young people are the world leaders of tomorrow,” said Mayor Harry Rilling.
The kids also got to play a role in the design process, voting on the playground structures they want.
