A Norwalk woman is behind bars for allegedly beating a young child, almost to the point of death.

Police investigated the case for several months and arrested 30-year-old Nicole Taylor at her home on Suncrest Road. Police couldn't comment as to whether Taylor is related to the girl, who is under the age of 24 months.

In May, the child was transported from Norwalk Hospital to Yale New Haven Hospital for blunt force trauma. Investigators say at one point, some of the little girl's internal organs were failing.

Taylor has been charged with risk of injury to a minor and first-degree assault. The girl is in the hands of the Department of Children and Families. Police add two other children have been removed from Taylor?s custody.
