NY expands cannabis program, giving patients more access to medical marijuana
Doctors and health practitioners in New York can now prescribe medical marijuana for any ailment they see fit.
The Office of Cannabis Management announced the launch of a new certification system that makes it easier to use and expands the eligibility for patients who can benefit from medical cannabis.
It will allow the certification of a patient by a doctor or eligible practioniner for any condition that the doctor believes can be treated with medical cannabis.
The use of recreational cannabis is still a year away. On March 31, 2021, New York legalized adult-use cannabis, also known recreational marijuana, by passing the Marijuana Regulation & Taxation Act (MRTA). That process is set to legally begin no sooner than March 1, 2022.
