The New York Police Department says Commissioner Dermot Shea has tested positive for COVID-19.
He is said to be doing well and in touch with his executive staff on a regular basis.
According to a tweet by the NYPD, he's staying home and is running the police department remotely.
According to Deputy Commissioner Richard Esposito, Commissioner Shea attends functions and is in close contact with people all the time, but takes extensive precautions.
As of today, for the month of January, 463 members of the NYPD have tested positive for COVID-19.
