Family and friends of a 15-year-old boy who was fatally shot at McLaughlin Park held a vigil Thursday night as police continue to search for the shooter.
Unique Smith's family laid out candles to spell "Unique" in front of the building where he lived with his family in Bed-Stuy. Dozens of people came to pay their respects, including some of his teachers and friends. Smith was a student at Brooklyn Lab Charter School.
Those close to him say they will remember him for his personality.
Police say he was gunned down Wednesday after an argument inside the park.
Investigators tell News 12 Smith was sitting on a bench with two teenage girls when two people, who police believe were two teenage boys, walked up and started arguing with Smith. They say it turned into a fist fight and one of the teens put on a ski mask, then pulled out a gun and shot Smith in the chest.
Smith was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead soon after.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police.
