NYPD heroes awarded medals for heroism, dedication to NYC

NYPD officers who have put their lives on the line were rewarded for their heroism in a ceremony Friday.

NYPD officers who have put their lives on the line were rewarded for their heroism in a ceremony Friday.
“Today we honor heroes who gave their lives for this city. We also recognize those whose remarkable bravery, instincts and skill carried them through situations that most people can not even imagine,” says Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.
The families of fallen NYPD officers Det. Brian Simonsen and Det. Brian Mulkeen accepted Medals of Honor on their behalves.
In addition, 16 officers received the Combat Cross and 10 were awarded the Medal of Valor. For the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the families of 66 officers who died from 9/11-related illnesses were honored.
More than 100 members were honored.
